Aquaculture Business Development Programme

Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP) is a jointly funded program by the Government of Kenya and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Programme targets counties with high concentrations of aquaculture activity, high production, existing sectoral infrastructure, adequate water resources and marketing potential. The Programme is in fifteen counties; Migori, Kakamega, Homa Bay, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka-Nithi, Kisii, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, Embu, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado.

The Programme targets male and female smallholder fish farmers involved in fish farming including youth benefiting from employment and self-employment opportunities along the segments of the aquaculture value chain.

The Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development

The Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) project is implemented by Government of Kenya, through the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries with support from the World Bank. The Project aims improving management of priority fisheries and mariculture and also increase access to complementary livelihood activities in coastal communities. The project covers five coastal counties that border the Indian Ocean: Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu because it focuses on improving marine fisheries.
