CS Joho Assesses Compliance with Mining Act 2016 in Kilifi County

Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho, today conducted a field visit to Jaribuni and Kokotoni areas in Kilifi County to assess the level of compliance with the Mining Act, 2016 by mining companies operating in the region.

CS Joho expressed satisfaction with the progress made by companies such as Victoria Engineering Company, which has formalized agreements to uphold its obligations under the law. These include the timely payment of royalties, fulfillment of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments and support for critical infrastructure development.

“I am pleased to see that companies are taking their responsibilities seriously and aligning their operations with the requirements of the Mining Act. This is essential for sustainable development and ensuring local communities benefit from these resources,” the Cabinet Secretary said.

He was accompanied by Kilifi Governor H.E. Gideon Maitha Mung'aro, Deputy Governor H.E. Flora Mbetsa Chibule, Rabai MP Hon. Anthony Kenga Mupe, Principal Secretary for Mining Harry Kimtai and other local leaders.
