Local communities assured on Ministry’s projects

Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has assured of his commitment to ensuring community interests are fully catered for in the implementation of projects by his Ministry.

The Cabinet Secretary spoke during a stakeholder engagement with Kipini fisheries community from Tana River County led by Garsen MP, Hon. Ali Wario Guyo.

The meeting discussed the blue economy particularly the activities of the Kenya Marine Fisheries Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) project and how it can be enhanced for more benefit to the community.

Provision of modern fishing equipment, training of the fisherfolk and environmental conservation featured in the agenda with the training of coxswains and establishment of a fish market at the landing site given prominence. 

CS Joho and the delegation from Kipini also discussed the proposed mining of titanium in the area and the community involvement from the initial stages of the venture.

Also present at the meeting were Principal Secretaries Elijah Mwangi of the State Department of Mining and Betsy Njagi of the State Department of Blue Economy and Fisheries.
