Fish value addition tops agenda at CS and Canadian envoy meeting
Enhancing the fish value chain with an emphasis on value addition to minimize post-harvest losses faced by fisherfolk in the country topped the agenda during a meeting between CS Hassan Ali Joho and Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya, Christopher Thornley.
CS Joho and the Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya who paid him a courtesy call at his office in Nairobi also explored ways of upscaling the partnership between the two countries particularly in the blue economy and mining sectors.
“We also explored additional facets of the blue economy, such as water transport which can serve both as a tourist attraction and a logistical solution,” the Cabinet Secretary said.
On the mining sector, CS Joho encouraged large Canadian mining investors to consider opportunities in the Kenyan territory given the existing potential for mutually beneficial investments.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by Senior Development Officer Kimani Mungai and Pamela Gordon, the Deputy Head of Cooperation at the Canadian High Commission in Nairobi. Also present were Principal Secretaries Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy and Fisheries) and Harry Kimtai (Mining).
