Stakeholder Engagement with Ogal and Asat Beach Management Units
The involvement of all stakeholders will remain a central focus in the development of fish landing sites across the country, Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has affirmed.
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the importance of engaging stakeholders throughout project implementation to ensure that the real needs of communities are met effectively.
“Collaborating closely with stakeholders in the execution of projects ensures their success and guarantees that the actual needs of communities are fully addressed,” the Cabinet Secretary said.
He made these remarks during a stakeholder engagement session with leaders of the Beach Management Units (BMUs) for the upcoming Ogal landing site in Kisumu West and the Asat fish landing site in Seme as part of monitoring the Ministry's projects.
At both sites, CS Joho and the BMU leaders discussed how best the local communities can benefit from the construction of these new facilities.
The new state-of-the-art fish landing sites will be equipped with cold storage facilities which will ultimately benefit local fisherfolk by preserving their catch and improving market access.
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Betty Njagi (Blue Economy and Fisheries) and Geoffrey Kaituko (Maritime Affairs and Shipping) as well as Members of Parliament Hon. Rosa Buyu (Kisumu West), Hon. James Nyikal (Seme) and Kisumu Woman Representative Hon. Ruth Odinga among others.
Prior to the site visits, CS Joho paid separate courtesy calls on Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong’o and Nyanza Regional Commissioner Ms. Florence Mworoa.
He also visited the proposed Kisumu Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) following a meeting with senior management of the Kenya Maritime Authority at the Kisumu office.
